My favorite sports hero of all time is Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame Quarterback, Roger Staubach.  Roger not only won two super bowls, but he was a true role model.  He had what researcher Matthew Davidson calls both moral and performance character.  Roger was the hero we needed to win games and happy to do it because he was such a good guy.

Performance Character provides you the necessary skills to pursue achievement in any area.

Moral Character are the regulation tools that keep our integrity in check, ensure that we help others and use responsible and ethical behavior off and on the court.

There are several values related to both and all of them are important to building great kids into upstanding and achieving adults. In Wylie ISD, we are teaching our kids both moral and performance character.  We show up on the courts ready to compete, but also open car doors at elementary schools to be the kind of example our younger students can admire.  We all want to create achieving kids that find success in the classroom, concert hall, and court. The Wylie Way requires that we spend as much time making sure that folks want to “root” for them because they are showing amazing moral character as well.
